14 drug peddlers arrested; contraband/psychotropic substances recovered: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 24 (KNO): In continuation of the ongoing mass anti-drug campaign under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police have arrested fourteen drug peddlers in various parts of valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in Ganderbal, during naka checking, a police party of PP Shadipora intercepted a vehicle (Ertiga) bearing registration No. JK01BB-1295 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohd Bhat resident of Batwina and Mudasir Ahmad Hajam son of Abdul Hameed Hajam resident of Arampora, Ganderbal. During search, 100 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. In Anantnag, acting on a specific tip-off, a police team of Police Post Sangam, raided the residence of Mohammad Younis Dar of Semthan and recovered 246 grams of charas (08 sticks). The accused was arrested subsequently. At Ashajipora Bypass, a naka party of Police Post Janglatmandi intercepted a vehicle. The contraband substance was recovered from two accused boarding the vehicle. They have been identified as Fardin Khan @Sameer Khan of Qazi Mohallah and Numaan Riyaz Khan of Lazibal. Similarly, during naka checking at Donipawa, one person identified as Nisar Ahmad Shergojri of Sherpora was apprehended with a substance resembling poppy straw. In another operation, Police Post Bus Stand apprehended Adnan Ishaq Mir of Ashajipora at Tarbal Chee and recovered approximately 2 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. In Budgam, Police acted on credible information regarding illegal possession of narcotic substances intended for sale to local youth at a residence in the Choudhary Bagh Subden area of Budgam. Acting promptly, a police party from Police Post Soibugh conducted a search operation at the specified location. During search, approximately 2.713 kilograms of charas powder-like substance was recovered from the residential premises. The accused has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Choudhary Bagh Subden, Budgam. He was apprehended on the spot. In Kupwara, a police team of Police Post Drugmulla, at a checkpoint established at Bumhama Muqam Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Swift) bearing registration number JK09C-6415 driven by Shafat Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Akbar Dar resident of Dar Mohalla Awoora, at present Tikker, Kupwara. During search, substantial quantity of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. In Baramulla, Police apprehended four drug users during routine naka checking at Wussan Crossing. An Alto vehicle bearing registration number JK05D-8764, was intercepted with four persons on board. They have been identified as Khalid Ahmed Khan son of Nazir Ahmed Khan resident of Katipora Tangmarg, Tanveer Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Majeed Sofi resident of Sheikhpora Khreeri, Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Gh. Nabi Bhat resident of Gutlipora Tangmarg and Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray son of Bashir Ahmad Magray resident of Mirchipora Tangmarg. During search, syringes with needles, silver foil and other narcotic paraphernalia were recovered. All four individuals were shifted to hospital for medical examination, where they tested positive for consumption of opioids, likely heroin, subject to confirmation through forensic analysis. Meanwhile in Sopore, a Police team during naka checking at Baag-e-Sundri Crossing, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. During search, psychotropic substances including Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules and Alprazolam tablets were recovered. The accused has been identified as Zaid Bashir Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Upper Ashpeer Sopore. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved.
